Curved SEG Frames – Display Innovation
The new year has been all about the curves!
Recently, we had the pleasure of pitching a few SEG Frame ideas for a local Minnesota Powersports Dealer, Moon Motorsports. Moon Motors utilized a banner in their warehouse corner for staging machines and taking photos to publish new arrivals on their website. Searching for an updated and fresh look, they came to XCEL and asked for ideas. We immediately thought a curved Silicone Edge Graphic frame would create a smooth and flawless backdrop. Because this customer was new to SEG and the capabilities, we moved ahead with a rendering and explained the many pros to utilizing a Silicone Edge Graphic Frame System.
An SEG Frame print can be easily replaced, folded up for later use, and provide a non-reflective, soft surface for pictures.
Once the rendering was approved, we went to work on bending aluminum and creating custom brackets for mounting the frame to the wall. The structure design had the frame standing at 120″ Tall and 278″ Wide and backed against the corner. One side needed to extrude out from the wall to allow space for electrical components to remain hidden behind the frame but still accessible.
Bending aluminum requires specialty tools and a softer compound of aluminum. Precision is critical here; an inaccurate bend in the radius would prevent even and smooth placement at install. Once bent, the aluminum is often powder coated for a perfectly smooth and even surface. Because each curved or bent frame is unique, custom hardware usually needs to be manufactured to secure the lengths and mount the frame in its final install location. Curved SEG frames can be concave, convex, arched, or even in the shape of a circle. When bending aluminum for Silicone Edge Graphics, the prints or fabric will also need to be custom fitted at the time of sewing. We will deliver the frame to the printer before sewing, and then each print is tested in the frame, finalizing the perfect amount of tension and finishing.
Ultimately when complete, it’s a showstopping modern display. As you can see, for Moon Motorsports, the before and after photos are dramatic and oh-so-worth-it!
Have you considered curved frames for your environment? Nowadays, so many fixtures and décor appear with hard lines and straight finished edges. Adding some curves and softness can add interest to and appeal to more eyes. If you or your client are looking to cover pillars or columns, add a circle that can hang in the air, or, more uniquely, create freestanding curved signage, please reach out. We would love to learn more about your project and help you create a one-of-a-kind piece for one location or many.
